Artist's Statement
I have been painting Intuitive/Energetic portraits of people, pets and events for the past 25 years. It has been one of my greatest joys. Most of my work has been on commission. I do not need to know the person directly, only their name. These portraits are not painted from a sitting or photo but are basically abstract in nature because I paint from a “vision” of the person; from what I “see” in my mind when I think of them. I start from that initial sight and work progressively, thinking of the person as I paint. This allows many subtleties, shadings and details to emerge spontaneously and I follow this unfolding as I do in the experience of my life. This mysterious process has yielded much insight and understanding. The results are deep and revealing........
The people whose portraits you see here have each approved the showing of their piece. All of the work is copyrighted and I do not make prints of any commissioned work other than for my portfolio. This is original art and is intended for the individuals who commission me. It is personal, not mass produced.
I try to keep the price of these watercolor and guache paintings as reasonable as possible. Usually the paintings are 8 x 8 inches, framed in a white mat, making them about 14 inches square. The costs start at $350.00 plus sales tax of $24.00 and shipping/handling of $15.00.
I have also published a book of poetry, excerpts from which you will find on this web site. The poems came during a period of my life when foremost were mortality and immediacy.
This website has come about because when I travel, people often ask to see my work. It is my hope that the words and images that you see here will make a connection between us that will grow and thrive.
